About House of Light
In a coffee shop in 2013, five moms gathered and started dreaming about how they could make a difference in their community. House of Light is that dream. House of Light’s mission is to provide the items to turn a house into a home. As mothers, we understand the significance of a home to a family.
Currently, House of Light partners with two local shelters. The Family Tree, a shelter in Denver that becomes a safe-haven for families leaving domestic abuse situations or find themselves homeless for any number of reasons and Family Promise, who provide homeless families with emergency shelter, meals and supportive services on their path to self-sufficiency. House of Light has also partnered with Aurora Housing Authority, which works with families in Aurora, finding affordable housing for them. Most items used to furnish homes are new or gently used donations.
About Our Families
We choose to work within the city of Aurora because this is our community. We partner with The Family Tree, Family Promise and Aurora Housing Authority. Their case workers provide us with about 10–15 families per month. Most of the families we help are single mothers with more than 2 children.
