HOL Gives Furniture to Five Families

School is back in session and so are the ladies at House of Light. Five families from the Aurora area received furniture and house goods for their homes this week. Twenty-five people, including 18 children, received sofas, tables, chairs, end tables, linens, bedding, and kitchen goods. Additionally, those families received 14 beds.

“Our ultimate goal is to not have a single person in Aurora sleeping on the floor,†said Brandy Pfalmer, HOL President. “Today, we are 25 persons, including 18 kiddos, closer to meeting that goal.â€

HOL Serves Nine Familes

The weather was hot, but that didn’t stop the House of Light volunteers. We served nine homes in the month of May, including two sisters that were refugees and a single mom who is a survivor of sex trafficking. House of Light gave away 18 beds as well as kitchen table and chairs, living room furniture, kitchen and bathroom goods, pillows, linens and other household goods. Among those nine families were 19 kids. HOL has served 168 families so far this year.

A special shout out to the fifth grade Shooting Stars at Coyote Hills Elementary for providing the pillows for those families. Thank you for your generous support!

“It’s like a Dream.”

The weather was beautiful for another House of Light furniture delivery and pick up!

Today, HOL furnished seven homes, delivering 10 beds to 22 people, half of whom were children. One family would be sleeping on beds for the first time in their new home. The mother and her children had been homeless for more than a year.”

“I can’t believe this,†she said. “It is like a dream.â€

Flatirons Partnership, Mattress Drive

For the past three weekends, Flatirons Church has partnered with House of Light in a mattress drive. The results were amazing! The mattress drive accumulated enough donations to purchase 36 twin mattresses.
On behalf of everyone at House of Light, our most sincere thank you!

The Aurora-based Flatirons campus meets in Cherokee Trail High School every Sunday at 9 and 11 am, but there are five Flatirons satellite church locations, including their base in Lafayette.

Five Families Receive Furniture

The weather couldn’t be better for a day in March. It was the perfect day to furnish homes for five families. Working with House Of Light partner All My Sons Moving Co., there were 10 children served and six beds delivered to those families.

“My kids have been sleeping on the floor, and now they have beds,†said one recipient. “I can’t thank you enough.â€

Shoutout to Volunteers, Moving our Unit in a Blizzard

A special shoutout to all the volunteers that helped moved our storage unit on Saturday in 20 degree weather and blowing snow. With the number of volunteers that showed, we moved all furnishings from one unit to the new one in under three hours. Thank goodness for volunteers!

Partnership with iBox Storage

House of Light has partnered with iBox Storage to house all the items used for our furniture donations to families.

“Working with iBox has been a blessing,†said Tisha Smith, Vice President of House of Light. “Having a storage unit that is accessible with an ample amount of storage is vital to our success. We can’t thank Marji and the team at iBox Storage enough.â€

First 2018 Drop-Off

House of Light continues to be blessed by the generosity in donations.

On Thursday, January 11, we picked up an entire truck of furniture donations. On Friday, most of the furniture was used to furnish the homes of eight families in the Aurora area. It takes a team of volunteers, partnerships and generous donations to make everything come together.
